Bruce Asbestos’ A/W 2022
Live catwalk
19.05.22
The Holden Gallery presents Bruce Asbestos’ A/W 2022 catwalk, live in the gallery.
Witty, seductive and extravagant; Bruce’s work feels at once both unique yet strangely familiar. His playful use of popular culture, commerce and high art puts his own personal brand firmly within the realm of participation, play and pop art. The work uses spaces such as social media, the catwalk and virtual realities to create an accessible path through the middle of contemporary art and pop culture.
This latest project features bold colours and sculptural outfits, using the face of his most recognisable inflatable, ‘Rest’ a giant 12m yellow worm. The collection looks to imagine ‘Rest’ as a kind of mini-brand.
Drawing on the intersection between art, fashion, performance and pop culture, his hand-made sculptural outfits flip high fashion on its head, boasting a fantastical absurdity which is unmistakable to Bruce Asbestos’ arresting artistic identity.
Expect references from pop culture iconography and folklore combined with Bruce’s distinctive inflatable sculptures.
The event will be livestreamed on the Manchester School of Art’s YouTube channel in addition to Bruce’s website.
Limited live tickets are free and available on Eventbrite.
Bruce Asbestos A/W Catwalk 2022 is supported by Arts Council England.
